Whether you’re traveling from a Panamanian airstrip to a river lodge by canoe in the rain, or just walking to the train station in a blizzard – a water resistant bag is good to have.

Karrimor’s Expedition Duffel is just that bag.

Not only is the bag made from water resistant N1000D Tarpaulin fabric, but the zipper enclosures are designed to cover the zipper and protect the bag’s contents from moisture. The bottom of the bag is sturdy, Kordura-like material.

The bag’s webbed handles are long enough to wear over the shoulder when not fully packed – and there are padded detachable straps so that the bag can comfortably be carried as a rucksack or backpack. Since I typically travel with a small bag like this and a daypack, I would appreciate a longer, detachable shoulder strap but can easily work with this bag.

Packing is easy thanks to the wide-mouth or book-like opening. Two side pockets, also with covered zippers, allow for organizing gear. The main compartment’s zipper loops can be locked; the side ones cannot. The generous 40L size works for a weekend or longer trip for great packers.

In full disclosure, the tags on the bag do not represent it as waterproof or water resistant, but the items I placed in the bag for a photo shoot in the snow stayed dry.

Although a £99.99 price tag was still attached, the Karrimor Expedition Duffel is offered for £40 (approx. $66.50 US dollars) by Mr. Luggage.

When Mr. Luggage offered me a choice of many bags and rucksacks available on their site, the decision was difficult. Their selection of quality brands is huge and the prices are fantastic! Based in the UK, they have a partner who ships worldwide for very reasonable fees, and promised 3-5 days for delivery. I got my bag overnight.
